What a difference a week makes

Last week, on vacation in Cannes, France

This week, back at work after four and a half months:

Anonymous said...: Good lord, Joan, I hope that poor plant -- it appears to be a rare miniature Gardenia? -- wasn't given to you as a gift. I bet at one time it was fragrant and lovely.

It was less of a gift and more of an opportunity to do a mitzvah. Clearly, I have failed. And I'm sure at one time it was fragrant and lovely, but that was long before it was left at my door. The good side of not being watered for four and a half months: the tiny white bugs that once inhabited the soil seem to have been quieted once and for all (and thank God, they did not take over my office).

Come to think of it, the Gardenia "gift" was as bad as the Bad Santa Haiku...
