Movie Review: Mad Hot Ballroom

Just caught this one on TV again yesterday - although I had it at home from Netflix for almost two months and watched it over and over. I love this movie. If you have not seen it - you must rent it immediately. It's a documentary about a ballroom dancing program being run through the New York City public schools. These kids are so funny and insightful - it's just the most fun movie. Plus, it makes me LOVE living in NYC. Rent it immediately.

Teachers - you will love it especially, but anyone who remembers junior high will really get a kick out of it. And if you don't remember junior high - well, then all the more reason to watch.

I keep meaning to watch it. I know it is on Showtime on Demand and we just traded in HBO for Showthime so that Iris can watch the Tudors (giving up the Sopranos in the process!)

Another movie..which I just watched last week is Team America: World Police. It is extremely funny (it is done by the guys that do South Park) and skewers both liberals and conservatives equally! In my mind, a must watch. (Of course this is coming from a guy who would put Tommy Boy on his top 10 list! (comedy category).

I watched Tommy Boy for the 100th time on Tuesday. That is the BEST movie. OK - Team America: World Police goes on the list.

Saw Jonathan Rhys Myers interviewed this morning on The View. He is worth giving up The Sopranos for.

Seriously??! Tommy Boy rocks! (Black Sheep was okay, but not nearly as funny...)

Iris apparently has the same sentiment about Rhys Myers...

And the Tudors did get 4 stars from the Post today..

Enjoy!

Hey, you can check the steak by sticking your head up the bull's ass, but wouldn't you rather take the butcher's word for it?

Joan: Jonny Rhys is from Cork City. Mom lives here. Just so you know.

BTW so is Cillian Murphy -was in Breakfast on Pluto and Wind that Shakes the Barley - another couple for your list.

Funny, funny stuff...

Tommy:"Alot of people go to school for seven years"

Richard: "I know. They're called doctors."

I think my docs only went for three - the rest was over the internet.

As a proud alumna of PS 144 (one of the finalists!), I loved it.

Our best rental of the week was "Hollywoodland," about the suicide (or was it...murder?) of TV Superman George Reeves. Stylish and fun. At the other end of the spectrum, we watched "For Your Consideration," Christopher Guest's sendup of Hollywood. Come to think of it, it wasn't entirely the other end of the spectrum--both were about what the industry does to people who never quite make it.

Today was an important step forward in my recovery--retail therapy! On the theory that, like Fernando says, it's better to look good than to feel good. Hope you are up and shopping soon.

Laura

PS: Yesterday was a Rhys-Myers double-header--Bend It Like Beckham in the afternoon, Lion in Winter in the evening. He is very watchable indeed.

Last "Tommy Boy" quote, I promise:

"Fat guy in little coat...."

Laura -

I am so jealous that you are up to the retail therapy stage. I can't wait. By the way - the comment about my blog making your boob hurt cracked me up! Hope you keep feeling better and better.

Have seen Hollywoodland. Putting For Your Consideration on the list.
