Scar Treatment Advice?
Anyone have any thoughts on scar treatment?
I think the vitamin E thing has been debunked with research - any other wisdom out there? The one on my head is no big deal - it will be covered with hair eventually. But the one on my stomach is the one I may be able to minimize. It's what I would imagine a c-section scar might be like - but it's much smaller. Any thoughts? (Good thing I'm off the steroids now, or this one would be covered with hair eventually as well. And oh my God, steroids make you hungry! I think I have gained 20 pounds in one week.)

You might try Mederma. We had some success with it for a scar my older daughter had; it used to be RX but has been OTC for a bit now. You have to use it for a long time (3 months or so), but I do think it helped.
On the other hand, have you considered the scar's value as RTB for your brain surgery cred? Once your haridresser has worked his magic and your hearing is all wi-fi enhnced, you may not find people so ready to trust your story; a quick abdomen flash could prove invaluable.

Ava had 10 stitches above her eyebrow and we used Mederma on it you can still see it faintly mostly in the summer when she is tan, but still it seems to have done the trick....nikki
Ok - Mederma. Two experienced moms should know. Speaking of moms, mine just got here and she's making me go for a walk (EVERYONE wants to strangle my wings), so we'll stop and get some.
I'll let you know how it works.

or perhaps a tatoo?
Someone else suggested a tattoo as well, which I think is great. "Tap here for brain caulking material". Also, if I ever have to have a c-section - I am going to insist they reuse the same scar.

Out of curiosity, did you have to take steroids after this surgery? For what?

Yep - I had to take steroids to reduce brain swelling. But I'm off them now, thank God, because I was eating everything in sight.
What's to hide? Take pride!
Maybe you can sew on a pocket, or a change purse? Alternatively, you can use the pocket to keep your bluetooth phone handy since you already have the built in bluetooth speakers & headset...
If you do get a tatoo, maybe something like "Mederma is for sissies."
Mederma is for sissies! I love it. Someone else asked if my head growls when I'm hungry now. Maybe I can come up with a tattoo theme around that.
Mederma, and that stuff pregnant women use to prevent stretch marks. And my mother swears that if you supplement BOTH of those with as pure cocoa butter as you can find AND that stuff they put on horses hooves (not bag balm but that other stuff) you will end up with NO scar whatsoever.
Altho I like the tattoo idea...
Ok - I've been using the Mederma stuff so far. I will have to stock up on the other ingredients and report back. Mothers know this stuff - so I'm trusting all this advice.

speaking of frankenstein, my poor bald hubby had stiches in his head (when a glass bowl fell on it - which i assure you was an accident!). i tended to them with a bit of cocoa butter for a couple weeks, and it did a pretty nice job!

I see from your comments you've still decided to gentrify your scar region. That's ok.
Here's another recommendation: I think you can still achieve a toughness balance by asking Terry to sport a sympathy scar, or maybe a tattoo of a scar.
I have lots of good advice coming your way.
Terry was having sympathy headaches - but they're gone now. So I like the sympathy scar idea. Less transient. He'll be your biggest fan, anonymous!
shit... i remember in high school when you would have done anything to gain weight. while the rest of us were all trying to go in the other direction, cursing you (you were really hard to curse at, too, because you were so sweet.). oh, as for mederma, i had surgery and it did help, somewhat... if done with the whole massage thing. why am i not revealing who i am?? oh, because i'm a freak. oh, and scars??? i call them battle scars. you can do the tattoo thing, as someone suggested. but, you should be proud of them. in that 'proud of scars' because look at where you are, type of way... if that makes any sense.
Anonymous - I have to say, I am very proud of the scar on my skull. Not so much the one on my stomach. It will start all kinds of rumors - I can hear them now: "What's Joan Traynor up to? Oh, I ran into her at Manorhaven Pool. Let me tell you, she's only still skinny because she's addicted to lipo. I saw the scar."
